Hallelujah. Five years. Saw it on ESPN.com, which cites a Denver Post report. To me, this was the biggest question mark of our offseason, and it’s already taken care of. I’m very pleased to see ownership and management step up like this.
It came out today, and you may have already looked at it. If not, you can download it as a pdf all over the place, including from ESPN.com . Anyway, the big name named in it was Roger Clemens. That's what we've been waiting all this time for? I don't even know what to say, because this is like the least-surprising report of all time. I hate the gotcha crap that goes on when stuff like this happens. You know, the know-it-alls who say how obvious it was that Clemens had been cheating for years—hey, just look at his age! (Did these people say this so confidently before Clemens was named? No. And have they ever heard of Nolan Ryan?) But seriously. LT, you'd think he'll pay for himself in Birdman T-shirts.
Blaine, the Lakers are better because they got Ron Artest? I guess so. To me he's worth less to them than to any other team in the league since he can't guard Kobe now. Nike seizing the tapes of LeBron getting dunked on is child's play compared to the Lakers signing Artest to keep him "away" from Kobe.
The Spurs should be better with Richard Jefferson, but if they'd had Jefferson but no Ginobili this playoffs I'm not sure that would have made them title contenders. So they have to be healthier than they just were, too. Also, as sad as it makes me, Tim Duncan is getting older (though if you've checked his stats and seen him technically scoring under 20 points per game each of the last four years, you already knew that).
All of that aside, after the loss of Jones I think I agree. I'm not sure we HAVE to get a post player but we could use another reliable guy.
