(Buffaloes, Buffaloes.) Go CU!

Colorado dominated Nebraska with its running game Friday. Hmmm, when have I seen that before?

With a final score (65-51) that resembled an NBA Eastern Conference playoff game more than a Big XII rivalry showdown, the Buffs-Cornhuskers game was a thrilling conclusion to Colorado's regular season. Go ahead and credit the now on-again efficiency of quarterback Cody Hawkins, but never forget the Buffs' star tailback. Right now that's Hugh Charles (169 yards), who managed just three touchdowns Friday. (Yes, that was sarcasm.)

The game was troublesome in the first half, with Nebraska taking a 35-24 lead into the break. But almost as soon as Colorado's troubles started, they were a distant memory. Interception return for a touchdown. Then Charles scored to take the lead, and did it again to widen the gap. The game was 44-35, but the Buffs weren't finished. Hawkins chucked a touchdown pass to the corner, and then Charles completed his second-half hat trick. Nebraska scored a couple of late touchdowns, which saved face, just not coach Bill Callahan's job. (And that's bad news for Colorado fans, if you ask me.)

Colorado's 34-0 run in the second half was clearly the key to the game. OK, that's about the dumbest thing I've ever written, and it's time to come clean. I missed most of the game Friday, a lot of it because I was shopping. Just shut up. However, since pretty much everyone here went to CU, why don't you loyal fans let me know what I missed?

I'm embarrassed to say I also missed the game...I thought it was on Saturday for some reason.

ahhhhh . . . punchinello was shopping . . . was he? precious. I saw the game and didn't even go to CU. I decided this year I'm not doing any shopping over Thanksgiving weekend. It's my time, baby. Anyway, it was a sweet game. Pretty much as you describe . . . it was a close one when I turned it on . . . but then Colorado ran away with it.

I missed the game because I was driving to the destination wedding I had to attend this past weekend . . . but anytime we hang up 60+ on the Huskers, I am happy. Bill Callahan was to CU what Marty Schottenheimer was to the Broncos, so I am sad to see him go.

So, do you think the Buffs will make a bowl game?

the 62-36 drubbing still goes down as the best CU game ever.

mike, perhaps a top five CU games would be cool.

It's no joke. It seems like the more devoted of a fan you are, the less the league cares about your continued patronage. The best example is the league's blackout policy, a wonderful gift from the league to its teams granting them added market pressure to charge whatever ridiculous amount they want for tickets. If a game doesn't sell out, the home market doesn't get to watch it on TV. (Basically, a 75-mile radius around the stadium doesn't get to see the game on TV if all the tickets aren’t bought first.) An innocent mistake

Sorry. Here I am to catch up on a few things from the past week... 1. Vince Young will be on the cover of Madden 08. Good for him, I guess. Much is made of the Madden curse. It's not a self-fulfilling prophecy, but it almost feels like one. The real problem is that a) football is a very violent game, and b) Electronic Arts typically selects a cover athlete who's already very well-known. Unfortunately, the players are therefore often a year (Shaun Alexander) or more (Ray Lewis) off their actual prime, and old enough that a serious injury is more likely. Young is an up-and-comer, and to avoid a horrible pun let's just say he has less age than most of those guys. I think he'll be fine. 2. Of course, the reason EA went with such a youthful player is that superstar Chargers back LaDainian Tomlinson turned them down . Why? Money. The Patriots and the Giants. Things just work out sometimes. * * * Two new teams, the England Patriots and the York Giants, will play for the NFL title in Super Bowl Forty-Six in two weeks.
