Nuggets win a squeaker

Did you catch the Nuggets’ 58-point win tonight over the New Orleans Hornets in Game Four? If you live outside of Denver, the answer is probably not, as the game was broadcast nationally on NBA TV. The only thing lamer than a league starting its own TV network is when that league starts airing playoff games on it.

As I would have anyway, I caught the game on Altitude here in Colorado. Well, except for the parts that were on when I was catching 24…did I mention the Nuggets won by 58 freaking points? 121-63 was the final score, and according to the Altitude crew that tied as the highest margin victory ever in the NBA playoffs.

There’s not much to say about the game, other than that it was everything Game Three should have been. The Nuggets dominated from start to finish, Carmelo was great, and while Chauncey may have started to cool off just a little bit he still badly outplayed Chris Paul, whom Scott Hastings called the best American flopper in the game today. I love that phrase.

Right now in the postgame they’re talking about Carmelo and how well he played tonight. I have to say it’s the best playoff game I’ve seen from him and he really stepped it up. But frankly, so did everyone; just check out the box score. (The plus/minus ratings are particularly hilarious.)

Nothing else to say. 58 friggin’ points!

I, of course, did not see the game on tv, but I did follow it on my computer, and I just kept laughing every time the score refreshed. I didn't know the Hornets had traded their starting 5 straight up for Laredo's. That plus/minus is the sickest thing I have ever seen. I guess Tyson Chandler ran out of hard fouls and cheap shots in game 3.

A league starting its own network is complete bunk, and I can't imagine it is profitable to air playoff games on a network no one gets.

That game was awesome! It was even better because we did it to the Hornets the game after they TRIED to get physical. I loved how the Nuggets kept on putting CP3 on his back all night long and forced him into 6 TOs.

Hopefully the Nuggets can maintain the same intensity tomorrow night and we can run NOLA out of the building!

I probably would've thought the score was wrong online. Tyson Chandler did throw in one hard foul when he pushed/flailed at Nene going across the lane, but the basket was good anyway.

I hope we win going away tomorrow night, too, but I'll graciously accept any kind of win.

I'll take any kind of win, particularly in the postseason, but another shellacking would be mighty gratifying. Perhaps the best part is our defense exposing Chris Paul to the tune of 4 points, 6 assists, and 6 turnovers. Looks like Chauncey busted a cap in him.

The Top Dozen Pro Quarterbacks

With the NFL season over, it’s time for year two of my annual quarterback rankings . Actually, last year the list was of quarterbacks I’d take over Jake Plummer. Since such a list this year would be at least a novella, I’ve changed it to the top twelve quarterbacks. This list is intended to be the best quarterbacks as of today and/or next season. Thus, it won’t correspond perfectly with, say, my list of the best young quarterbacks . Vince Young’s completion percentage, for example, will count against him more here. That said, some predictions are still involved. (For example, will Jake Delhomme and Ben Roethlisberger bounce back?) The winners: 12. Philip Rivers, San Diego. Rivers may deserve a higher spot on this list. I’m just trying not to get too carried away. On the plus side, he’s on a fine team (if they have coaches next year) and has a fantastic arm. Who cares?

So we finally got done with the NBA playoffs after nearly two months of stretched-out play, and tomorrow's the draft. I really couldn't care less. I'm so burned out on the sport. Sadly, there's nothing else going on worth mentioning, so we might as well get into it. (Yes, baseball, Pugs, but I haven't really started following that this year yet, sorry.) Would the NFL hold its draft five days after the Super Bowl? Of course not, and not just because the league doesn't want to distract from the highlight of its annual calendar, the Pro Bowl. Of course, the NBA's situation is a little different. College play ended two and a half months ago, and the teams want to get draftees ready for the all-important summer league play (because the kind of guys that need the summer league always end up players). Not that when college basketball is over is relevant, anyway-the league is overrun by a bunch of high school players "just months removed from their prom" (...
